Be Here Now: The Whigs @ Valentine’s, 5/1/10

Rockin’ Athens, Georgia-based trio the Whigs is riding high on the critics’ acclaim for their new album, “In the Dark.”

Here’s a sampling of reviews that we’ve found:

Rolling Stone calls the album “the sharpest distillation of [The Whigs’] neo-college rock yet.”
Vanity Fair says, “There is enough unabashed pop laced with sweaty southern thrashing to whet any rock and roll fan’s appetite.”
American Songwriter Magazine hails the album as “powerful, gritty and headbangingly sincere.”
And Newsday praises the album’s ability to “blend melodies from 70s Rolling Stones and 80s Replacements with 90s grunge underpinnings to build a whole new rock animal.”

Tonight, you can catch the Whigs performing their song “Hundred/Million” on “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.”

And better yet, the Whigs will be wiggin’ out live upstairs at Valentine’s Music Hall in Albany on Saturday night. John Brodeur and the Little Hopes open the show. Admission is $10.27 in advance; $12 at the door.
