TV Time: Natalie Merchant from Troy Savings Bank Music Hall

Natalie Merchant

Natalie Merchant and the Poetry of Childhood” is one of the segments that’s slated to air at 6:30pm tonight on “PBS NewsHour” hosted by Jim Lehrer on WMHT-TV.

The former 10,000 Maniacs singer will be discussing “Leave Your Sleep,” her first new album since 1993 2003. The album is a collection of songs in which she set music to the work of a wide range of poets – from Ogden Nash to e.e. cummings.

Of particular note to Nippertown readers, the interview segments and the performance footage for the “NewsHour” were filmed last month at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall during a special concert that Merchant and Elvis Perkins in Dearland performed for WAMC-FM pledge-drive supporters.

PS: Elvis Perkins in Dearland will also be performing at the Bearsville Theater in Woodstock on Tuesday evening.

    Uh…you mean 2003, not 1993.
