Dan Hicks, What Was the First Album You Ever Bought?

Dan Hicks“I remember that my parents had some sort of console record player – a big, blond console deal. I remember that we had real kind of straight-sounding stuff like Lawrence Welk and Ferrante & Teicher – that kind of stuff.

I don’t really remember whether it was the first album that I ever bought, but one of those very first ones was a Benny Goodman album that I bought when I was in high school. It was called ‘The King of Swing’ or something like that. I may still have that album. Jazzy stuff, that’s what I liked back then.”

Dan Hicks leads the current edition of his band the Hot Licks into The Egg in Albany on Friday night, sharing the stage with bluesman John Hammond.
