Festival Fever week continues. Each day this week we’re announcing the line-ups of various festivals slated to take place throughout the Nippertown area this summer:
The free, two-day Lake George Jazz Weekend returns to Shepard Park in Lake George on Saturday and Sunday, September 18-19, with a stellar roster of talent. Sponsored by the Lake George Arts Project, the fest features jazz singer Roseanna Vitro tackling the Randy Newman songbook, the multi-talented David Amram in celebration of his 80th birthday and Albany native Stefon Harris teaming up with bass master Buster Williams.
This year, the fest has also added a special evening performance on Saturday, September 18 with adventurous New Orleans trumpet titan Christian Scott and his band.
Here’s the line-up:
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 1-6pm:
The Daniel Kelly Trio, the pianist-composer tackles the trio format after years of electronic experimentation and a stint with the Bang On a Can All-Stars
The David Amram Quartet: “The First 80 Years,” a celebration of Amram’s upcoming 80th birthday in November
Roseanna Vitro’s “The Randy Newman Project” with pianist Mark Soskin, violinist Sara Caswell, bassist Dean Johnson and drummer Tim Horner
SPECIAL SATURDAY EVENING PERFORMANCE, 7:30pm:
The Christian Scott Quintet, showcasing the trumpeter’s new album, “Yesterday You Said Tomorrow,” which features an intriguing interpretation of “The Eraser,” by Radiohead’s Thom Yorke
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 1-6pm:
The Sharel Cassity Quintet, the young saxophonist showcases her latest album, “Relentless,” which a four-star review in Downbeat
The Buster Williams Quartet with Stefon Harris, the bassist-composer showcases his new album, “Griot Liberte,” which features vibesmaster (and Albany native) Stefon Harris
The Samuel Torres Group, the Columbian Latin jazz percussionist-composer and his band showcase his upcoming album, “Yaoundé”
