2/17/10: Today’s Tips: Wednesday

MUSIC/ART: “The Amazing Acoustaphotophonogrammitron” @ Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts’ Gallery 51, North Adams, Mass. In conjunction with the current exhibition which bridges the worlds of visual art and music, the gallery will host a performance featuring Paul de Jong (of the Books), Tristan Perich, Lesley Flanigan and Ven Voisey. 7:30pm. $12.

MAGIC: Jim Snack @ the Steamer No. 10 Theatre, Albany. Hocus pocus! Master magician Jim Snack will keep the family entertained with his children’s magic show. 10am, 1pm, 3:30pm. $12.

MUSIC: Trombone Shorty @ the Iron Horse Music Hall, Northampton, Mass. Yes, Mardi Gras has come and gone, and now it’s Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. But don’t tell that to the folks at the Iron Horse, where the New Orleans music and party spirit is still flowing freely tonight. 7pm. $18.

TALK: Dr. Philip Barnard: “Cognition, Emotion and Action” @ EMPAC at RPI, Troy. Dr. Barnard, program leader at the Medical Research Council’s Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit in Cambridge and a collaborator-research advisor to Wayne McGregor | Random Dance, will present a talk on his research work. 7pm. Free.

MUSIC: Will Dowling @ Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs. Young singer-songwriter-Skidmore student Dowling plays in the band Third Nature. With this solo performance, he’ll draw on such musical influences as Sufjan Stevens and Jeff Buckley. 7pm. $5.
