1/26/10: Today’s Tips: Tuesday

THEATER: “Grease” @ Proctors, Schenectady. It’s opening night. This touring production of the ’50s love story between Danny and Sandy is a kind of mash-up, featuring songs from the original Broadway stage version (“Summer Nights,” “Greased Lightning,” “We Go Together”) in addition to songs from the hit movie (“Grease,” “Hopelessly Devoted to You,” “You’re the One That I Want”). American Idol Taylor Hicks plays Teen Angel. Through Sunday. 8pm. $20-$65.

FILM/OPERA: Monteverdi’s “L’Orfeo” @ Proctors, Schenectady. Considered by many to be the first real opera, “L’Orfeo” tells the tale of Orpheus (Georg Nigl) and his love for Eurydice (Roberta Invernizzi). Opera maverick Robert Wilson directs this new production at La Scala. 2 & 7pm. $20.

MUSIC: The Rob Jonas Band @ the Moon and River Cafe, Schenectady. Singer-songwriter Jonas delivers a rare full-band performance of Americana and roots-rock, including selections from his 2009 full-length CD debut, “Take Me Anywhere.” 8pm. Free.
