Kim and Reggie Harris

NAME: Kim Harris
BAND AFFILIATION: Kim and Reggie Harris
INSTRUMENT: Vocal and guitar

1. THE FIRST ALBUM I EVER BOUGHT WAS … I got three one year for Christmas: the Stylistics (can’t remember which of their albums), “Jesus Christ Superstar” (A.L. Webber) and “Tommy” (The Who). Yep… was pretty eclectic even (WAY)back then.

2. THE FIRST CONCERT THAT I EVER SAW WAS … First really big one was the Jackson Five. Of course, we were all screaming so loudly that I couldn’t actually hear the music. Later that night, my friend’s dad took us to their hotel where we all stood in line to meet them. Yep… got to shake Michael’s hand back when he (and I) were still kids!

3. THE FIRST MUSICAL INSTRUMENT I EVER OWNED OR PLAYED WAS … Played the piano we had at home first. Owned a guitar. It was after we had all seen the movie “The Singing Nun.” She named her guitar Adele. I named my guitar Theresa.

4. THE FIRST SONG THAT I EVER PERFORMED IN PUBLIC WAS … “Bring A Torch, Jeanette Isabella.” Was in the Christmas Pageant at church (of course). Maybe even sang it in French and English. Was 5 years old.

5. THE FIRST BAND I WAS EVER IN WAS … Hm… Rootbeer Jam. That was some kids and I from church in Philly. Don’t know what music we played… but we did!

1. THE FIRST ALBUM I EVER BOUGHT WAS … “Sweet Baby James” by James Taylor. I was a latecomer to the album-buying thang!

2. THE FIRST CONCERT THAT I EVER SAW WAS … Three Dog Night at the Spectrum in Philly

3. THE FIRST MUSICAL INSTRUMENT I EVER OWNED OR PLAYED WAS … a string bass in my junior high orchestra (besides resonator bells in elementary)

4. THE FIRST SONG THAT I EVER PERFORMED IN PUBLIC WAS … “Give Me Oil in My Lamp” when I was four… in church!

5. THE FIRST BAND I WAS EVER IN WAS … The Rick Rydell Band – a songwriter from Philly who had a brief dance with fame and no fortune. We just found each other again on Facebook. I played rhythm guitar and did vocals.

Kim and Reggie Harris team up with Magpie for their traditional “Sing Solstice!” concert at the Eighth Step @ Proctors in Schenectady on Saturday (December 19). Also joining in the celebration will be Ade Knowles & Ensemble Congeros and the Pokingbrook Morris Dancers.
