12/11/09: Today’s Tips: Friday

MUSIC: The Jerry Douglas Band with Maura O’Connell and John Oates @ The Egg, Albany: Dobro master Douglas brings along his band and a couple of special guest vocalists to celebrate his new album, “Jerry Christmas.” And maybe we’ll hear a Hall & Oates tune or two, too.

MUSIC: Flame @ The Linda, Albany: From Lexington Center in Johnstown comes Flame, ready to rock their hearts out despite the fact that the 11 band members battle developmental and/or physical disabilities. 8pm. $15.

MUSIC: The Figgs‘ release party with Scientific Maps, Kitty Little @ Valentine’s Music Hall, Albany: Last week, it was the Neighborhoods. Tonight, it’s the Figgs – old-time rock ‘n’ roll like it used to be. With this homecoming show, the Figgs celebrate the release of their new colored vinyl single, “Casino Hayes.” 9pm. $10.

MUSIC: Mirk & the New Familiars with Flakjacket, Eric Margan & the Red Lions, more @ Red Square, Albany: 10-band benefit show for the Langan School of the Albany Center for Disability Services. Details here. 7pm. $10 plus a new, unwrapped toy.

MUSIC: Mother Fletcher with Disposable Rocket Band @ Basilica Industria, Hudson: Last night, Disposable Rocket Band’s Mat Kane fired up his electric mandolin as one of the finalists in Q103’s Guitar Wars. Tonight he teams up with Mother Fletcher for a BYOB bash at the Basilica in Hudson, simply one of Nippertown’s coolest venues. 8pm. $10.
