It might seem crazy to attempt to open an gallery in these troubled economic times, but sometimes you’ve just got to be fearless.

Surprenant Art & Design is a new art exhibition space in Kingston intended to showcase contemporary work by artists in and around the Hudson Valley. Founded by artist Anne Surprenant and designer Brian Early, the gallery will explore a wide spectrum of art practices, from the fine arts to interior design, focusing on conceptual arts, site installations and performance art as well as painting, drawing, sculpture, photo and film.

The gallery opened its doors last month with its inaugural exhibition featuring the artwork of sculptor Don Johnson and painters Joe Concra and Denise Orzo. The exhibition continues through Sunday, December 20.
