MUSIC: Ray Davies with Christina Courtin @ The Egg, Albany: From his early days as the bandleader of the Kinks to his excellent solo albums like “Working Man’s Cafe,” Davies has been on the short list of the best rock tunesmiths around. Just don’t expect him to bring along the whole choir that he features on his new album, “The Kinks Choral Collection.” 7:30pm. $34.50, $39.50, $49.50.

THEATER: “Nickel and Dimed” @ the Arts Center of the Capital Region, Troy: Based on the book, “Nickel and Dimed, On (Not) Getting by in America” by Barbara Ehrenreich, Joan Holden’s play will be performed in conjunction with Capital Repertory Theatre. A panel discussion will follow. 7pm. $15.

MUSIC: Fairview Avenue @ the Moon & River Cafe, Schenectady: Nippertown bluegrass quartet serves up Appalachian standards as well as sharp originals. 8pm. Free.

MUSIC: Juice Junkies @ Savannah’s, Albany: Led by vocalist-guitarist Bryan Kruger, the Nippertown alt-rock quartet gets the upcoming holiday weekend started early. 8pm. $??.
