Pat Metheny, What Was The First Record You Ever Bought?

“I remember the first single that I bought – `Because’ by the Dave Clark Five. I was seven years old, and I saved up my money from mowing the lawn three weeks in a row to do it.

“I was a total Beatles freak, but I sort of dug all of that music. And there was something about that tune in particular… I can’t remember exactly what it was, but I remember that was the tune that I wanted to buy.”

Metheny will be playing with the Gary Burton Quartet Revisited at the Calvin Theater in Northampton, Mass. on Friday, June 19 and at the Freihofer’s Jazz Festival at SPAC on Saturday, June 27.

    Hi Greg.
I miss many things about not seeing you in the newsroom, not the least of which is you tipping me off whenever a Metheny show was announced anywhere in the Northeast. I’ll be at the Calvin on the 19th. You going?

  2. Greg says:

Thanks, Mike. I know how you need to feed your Metheny jones. No, I won’t be able to make it on 6/19, as the Ramblin Jug Stompers are gigging at Alchemy down in Woodstock. But I’ll be up at SPAC for the jazz fest on 6/27, so I’ll catch him there. Hope you’re hangin’ in at the TU.
