The year was 1967. Peppy Castro was just 17 years old, and he was touring the country with a Top 10 hit single.

That’s right, his band was the Blues Magoos, and their breakthrough hit was “(We Ain’t Got) Nothin’ Yet.”

After churning out albums with such mind-expanding titles as “Psychedelic Lollipop” and “Electric Comic Book,” the Blues Magoos called it quits in the ’70s. Castro went on to star on Broadway in “Hair,” formed such major-label bands Barnaby Bye and Balance and wrote advertising jingles for Diet Dr. Pepper, Wendy’s, Campbell’s Soup and Baby Ruth candy bars.

At 8pm Saturday, June 13, Castro steps into the spotlight at the Colony Cafe in Woodstock.
