Real Good for Free: Railbird

If you haven’t caught up with Railbird yet, you’ll have a couple of chances this week to see them play for free. The Saratoga-based combo serves up a slightly more blues-oriented sound than when they were known as the jazz-tinged Sarah Pedinotti Band. I haven’t yet heard the band’s new EP, “The Flower From California,” but with someone as charming and gifted as Pedinotti at the microphone, you know it’s gonna be good.

Railbird is the featured band at this month’s free CRUMBS Nite Out show at the Linda at 7pm Thursday. Following the band’s performance, Paul Rapp leads a panel discussion with Matthew Loiacono and Alex Muro on recording collectives.

And Railbird will also be spreading their musical wings on Saturday morning at Freihofer’s 31st Run for Women at the Empire State Plaza. The gun goes off for the big 5K run at 10:15am, while Railbird hits the stage at 10:45am and 12:30pm.
